Hi, I’m Salha
My name is Salha, and I’m originally from Sudan. I have been living in England for more than ten years, and Bristol has become a very special place to me. It is where I have continued to grow and raisede my family and follow my passion for cooking.
Cooking has always been a big part of my life. Some of my earliest memories are of growing up in a big family, watching my mum prepare delicious meals and bring everyone together around the table. In our home food was never just about eating. It was about family, love, sharing and making people feel welcome. Those memories have stayed with me and they are a big part of the way I cook today.
My dad is also a very important part of my cooking journey. He is a well-known and talented chef in my hometown and I had the opportunity to learn from him. Watching my parents and learning from their experience helped me develop my own love for food. I grew up surrounded by the smells flavours and traditions of Sudanese cooking and I knew from a young age that food would always be something special to me.
People sometimes ask me how I manage cooking while looking after five children. My answer is always the same when you love what you do you find a way. It takes hard work, patience and a lot of planning but I believe that if you stay focused believe in yourself and appreciate what you have you can achieve more than you might imagine.
Starting my own food business was a way to turn something I have loved since childhood into something I could share with other people. I wanted to introduce more people to Sudanese food and show them the variety, flavour and warmth of our cooking.Building a small business has taught me so much. There are long days, challenges and moments when you have to find the strength to keep going but every order, every customer and every kind word reminds me why I started.
I love preparing fresh, flavourful meals that people can enjoy with their families, friends and colleagues. Whether you are trying Sudanese food for the first time or you already know and love it. I want you to feel welcome.I also know that not everyone has tried Sudanese cooking before. That is one of the things I enjoy most about what I do: meeting people who are curious about our food, introducing them to new flavours and seeing them come back for more.
I am proud of my Sudanese roots, proud of the lessons my parents taught me and proud of the work I have put into building my business. I also hope that my journey encourages other women, especially mothers, to believe in their abilities and give themselves the chance to follow their dreams. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes you simply have to start with what you know, work hard and keep learning along the way.
Every meal I prepare carries a little piece of my story. When you order from my kitchen, you are supporting a small independent business built around a genuine love of food, family and culture.I am grateful to everyone who has ordered from me, visited me at the market, recommended my food to a friend or taken the time to support what I do. Your support means more than you know, and it helps me continue doing something I truly love.
